I Write

I write.
Not for payment.
For passion.

I am paid in tears and laughter,
in reflection and realization.

I ask questions
to which there may be no answer.

I observe the heart
in its many travels.

I watch the seasons pass,
love’s many turns,

and I play with words
like a jazz musician with notes.

I don’t always follow the rules
or do the expected.

Somewhere,
an old English teacher
is shaking her head,

while I am quietly smiling
